About Our Program
TransSports, a business developed by Olympian Josh Watson has just launched its product offering in the area of athlete education and transition. After a less than successful transition from elite level swimming, including a marriage breakdown, gambling addiction and depression, Josh determined what better way to facilitate personal achievement and success than by using his knowledge and experience to mitigate the effects of transition for future athletes.
Josh's passion is to engage and inspire athletes to be proactive with regards to their personal and professional development in order to facilitate continued achievement and success once their sporting days are over. Too many athletes either leave their development too late or do not adequately prepare for life after sport resulting in anxiety, uncertainty and depression; all toxic circumstances to elite athletes.
The program consists of three distinct offerings; a transition awareness and goal mapping workshop, seminars around five key areas of education and personal development and most importantly the project management of an athletes' development to successfully transitioned athlete.
Transition Awareness and Goal Mapping Workshop
The introductory workshop details Josh's difficult transition from elite sport. Josh is brutally honest with his account of his failings and illustrates clearly the emotional and psychological impacts of not being prepared for life after sport. Time is then spent on debunking some myths with respect to current transition beliefs and statistics.
A goal mapping exercise is then undertaken where athletes are engaged and take ownership of the path their personal and professional development will take as they approach and navigate transition. The athletes are emotionally challenged in order to fully deliver on the best possible outcomes for the day.
Educational Seminars
Educational Seminars are delivered around five key areas of personal development. The seminars operate in the areas of career, financial education, communication, relationships and professional development. Seminars will be presented by the TransSports 'Best of Breed' team in group format. Post seminar tasks will be undertaken by the athletes to aid retention and application of knowledge.
Athlete Development Project Management
The third product offering and centrepiece of the program focuses on the project management of the athlete's development from individually identified pathway (determined from the goal mapping exercise) to successfully transitioned athlete. The foundation of the success of the TransSports program is the relationship that develops between the athlete and TransSports creating informed choices for the athlete and accountability in their actions towards personal and professional development. The structure of the program operation mirrors the structure of the life that the athlete is accustomed to in terms of sport. TransSports (coach/mentor) and the team of service providers (Best of Breeds) are charged with progressing the athlete towards the goals they have set for themselves in terms of personal and professional development and how they want their life to look like in life after sport.
The Best of Breeds team deliver education around career, finance, relationships, communications, transition preparation, social development, business development, physical and mental health and emotional intelligence and more. Specific education for each curriculum delivered to an individual athlete is determined by their goal map, current skills and experience, values and dreams. Education is application based to maximise the opportunity to gain experience in all learning principles. Athletes demonstrated that a lack of experience was a key concern in feeling anxiety when approaching new tasks in new environments.
TransSports is across all information delivered and current progress with each service provider.
